Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)
SLIT is a safe alternative and effective treatment to allergy shots. The treatment involves allergen immunotherapy by using drops of an allergen extract that is administered under the tongue daily to build immunity of these allergens. This process is called Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT). Treatment recommendation includes administration of these customized drops everyday.
Why SLIT?
Unlike typical allergy medications like nasal sprays and antihistamines that offer immediate but short-lived relief lasting only a few hours, SLIT imparts lasting relief by conditioning your immune system.
Allergen immunotherapy, a form of preventive treatment for allergic reactions to various substances like grass pollens, house dust mites, and pet dander, employs a strategy of administering progressively doses of the allergen responsible for the allergy.
These incremental increases in allergen exposure aim to desensitize the immune system, for the body to build up a tolerance.
This process can lead to a reduction in allergy symptoms when encountering the allergen in the future (American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, n.d.).

Answer: Data shows that some patients report symptoms improvement within 3 to 6 months of treatment initiation, overall treatment program often lasts 3-5 years to achieve long-term relief. Understand that this allergy treatment program doesn’t deliver quick fixes; it delivers lasting relief.
Answer: Majority of side effects associated with SLIT, are generally mild and localized, often occurring early in the treatment course. These side effects typically manifest as mouth itching or mild stomach discomfort. In most cases, such issues can be effectively managed through adjustments to the treatment dosage. It is worth noting that severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis, are exceptionally rare. As a precaution, it is advisable for individuals to have an Epipen or we can prescribe one for you.

Sublingual Immunotherapy have been employed globally for over a century, with multiple studies confirming the safety and efficacy of allergy drops.
Sublingual immunotherapy has received approval from the World Health Organization as a feasible substitute for allergy injections. The Cochrane Collaboration, a globally respected organization devoted to evaluating healthcare treatments, discovered that immunotherapy through allergy drops markedly decreased allergy symptoms and the need for allergy medications.
